Hair, braces, a Michael photo shoot, and homeschool tests

Totally random :)  This is Elizabeth!  She is our little butterfly......fluttering everywhere.....
This is a twist gathering hair as you go.....
 Which looks like this.
Oh Joanna.....well I have learned I can not do anything exciting with her hair.  Just puffs for this girl....
Because if it isn't "out" for her to play with she will pull it out!  So oh well it is simple and it works.
This is a fun pattern- 3 "rows" on each side of the head....make "blocks" and make a pattern.  You can do this with 4-5 "blocks as well or just 2 and criss cross.
Awww.....Pretty biased that she is VERY GORGEOUS ;)
Then I usually twist at the ends like this, or leave as "puffs", or braid, whatever strikes your fancy.  :)
This is my version of "fake cornrows.  he he he....it is just literally twisting the hair in a line.  That's it!  Easy!
Abigail- pretty sure daddy needs big artillery to chase the boys away.....she is sooo BEAUTIFUL!  :)
These are the steps for the above.
just part the hair in the row, comb/brush through, then twist away....note to self you have to make sure you are twisting the same way for both sides, or at least make a pattern.  ;)
I ended in a "puff" or ponytail.
 Voila!
And this is my oldest's real hair length- yep!!!  I know I will get comments, but her hair has never been cut since she was around 18 months!  She is now 12 1/2!  She does has one small patch of some "breakage" at the front of her head, but really her hair has done sooo very well!!!!  :)  Whew!!!

All of the above hairstyles (except Joanna's bunches because she plays with them of course) actually last a week or more!  Depending on if my girls remember to wear their hair caps, and how small your "rows" or "sections" are.  They all take about 15min- 30 min DONE!  So I know people ask me all the time what do you do to their hair- do you do it every day- UMMM....NO WAY!!!  Unless Abigail wants to wear it down- which is GORGEOUS!  Then I do have to do a quick comb through every day.  I will post more styles as I do them if I do different ones and remember to take a picture.  ;)

Lately I have gotten in the habit of "redoing" hair on Sunday afternoon before church (we go in the afternoon/evening time), but sometimes I will stagger hair time so I only do one girl a day.  Either way there are tons of styles that don't take long that last at least a week or so.
So Michael got his very own pair of "boots" (braces).  They help "break" the tone caused by the cebral palsey as well as keep his feet in the right position for standing up since he is now pulling up on his own.  He doesn't wear them all the time, but for now at least an hour- 2 hours a day.  He does really well and only fusses as I am putting them on.
Can't see that well but he has "space" boots- the look like outer space.....with stars and planets.
Here is the front- with the spaceship strap too :)
Awww....Michael modeling for you, but he looks shy....
 Aw mom......not another picture........
Ok this is boring I am going to get into something........oh the stack of papers on mommy's desk- that looks like fun.
Ok ok.....another picture for my fans.  Look I am sitting on the edge all by myself.....
Ok mom....I want down to crawl around.....
MOM!  I am serious!  Let me down!  HE IS SHOWING EMOTIONS PEOPLE THIS IS AWESOME- and even when he is mad at you he is still sooo CUTE!
Man.....mommy didn't listen to me.  The others said this would happen.  They said, "Michael you are number 9 and you will be gushed over, but mommy will make you work.  Just face it and get over it."  They were right!
OK this is my last pose!
OK one more because this is my cute sister and I and well we are the most adorable twins ever!  CHEESE!!!!
Look I can hang on and get down.  Wanna see.....(ok folks at this time I know he can get down by himself, but I am not about to let him fall doing it.....so I did put the camera down to make sure he wouldn't fall on his face)  :)
This picture is for "K" because you rock and I know this picture would make you laugh!!!!  LOVE YOU!!!!!

OK so we have been busy around here this week!  Yesterday and today was testing day in the Wright home for homeschooling.  Some states, like Louisiana don't require anything :) just a letter stating you are homeschooling and how many students you have.  Some require A LOT like PA I believe has crazy laws.  Most have somewhere in between where you test or do a profile that has to be reviewed once a year.

Our tester was AWESOME!!!!!  Christian lady who loves homeschooling and did it herself!  She was so great with our kiddos and all our "special issues" ;) he he he.....  Only the oldest 6 have to test right now so we did 3 tests each day and I had wonderful friends help look after the other kiddos so we had a quieter house to test in.  They all did so very well and I am so very proud.  Come to think of it, really it just reaffirmed me in teaching.

I think before this I was still leery on how good of a teacher I am.  You know self doubt can creep in easily!  What I have to say to anyone thinking about or already doing home school.  God created us to be a family.  Yes there are people who don't or can't teach their own children and that is fine!!!  Not worried, but if you are feeling a nudge or did feel and now you are worried.  Don't be.  I was pretty much right on where I thought my kids would be!  That reminds me that although my children struggle in areas that some of my other children don't struggle in, that is not my fault.

Did you hear that?  Your children were created by THE ALMIGHTY PERFECTLY!!!  If they struggle it is not your fault!!!!  It happens.  Can you help them?  Sometimes, but not always.  Sometimes you can do all you can to help them.  You can study research, buy more curricula, and pull your hair out and the only thing that changes is you are now bald.  FOR REAL!

Sometimes just when you thought all hope was lost and your child would never learn such and such......they do it!  And you jump for joy and start singing SCREAMING PRAISES TO JESUS!!!  I know!  That was/is me!

So just a pick me up from me to all of you wonderful moms out there.  I am NOT perfect!  I totally make huge mistakes all the time.  I try and try again.  Sometimes I fail, sometimes I fail miserably, sometimes God moves those mountains, and sometimes I have to move and get out of the way for HIM!  I pray this encourages each of you homeschooling mommas and public schoolers!  YOU ALL ROCK!!!  :)

Good thing God never gives up on me! Happy Birthday to me (on the 31st).

You see this sweet loving picture.  Awwww.....My oldest and youngest.  Well, this is a prelimb....prelimb to what you ask?  Ummmm.....look below.
Joanna has well.....interesting issues ;).  You see she is a "rule breaker" in our home.  She never took a pacy, lived in my sling and daddy's when she was a babe- until she decided she loved to walk too much, never liked tummy time, but could hold her head up at 3 days, didn't do baby food- at all- because she just didn't like it, she does NOT go to sleep well but instead would rather stay up until midnight if it means she can get a few more cuddles from mommy and daddy!

Oh and she LOVES it when daddy tosses her around!!!!  So she likes to do those daring things that send mommy's heart into dangerous places.  So the trick she is doing up above looks cute.....until she jumps!!!!

I think the crazy part is- she doesn't fear.  As in she doesn't really know what fear looks like!  She just jumps.  She know her big sister was there - yes.  BUT she just knows her big sister will catch her.  She likes to do this walking down the stairs, in the pool, off the changing table.  People it is enough to send me to the looney bin (ummm....no comments please).

BUT she just trusts!!!  WHOLE HEARTEDLY TRUSTS!!!!!!!
Hmmmmmmmmm...........which leads me to the fact that sometimes I think we feel like if we did or didn't do something just right.  If we say the wrong words, or do a wrong action even with great intentions.....that we could "screw up" the whole world!!!

WOW!  Really?  You think you are that powerful?  YES MAM I DO.....sometimes...most of the time.

I remember reading a book and doing a Bible study on witnessing.  People have all kinds of philosophies.  One thing the book pointed out is that if you think you can mess things up - you will never witness!  It's true.  But until recently with things all a buzz about this and that and how someone did such and such.....I don't think I have put the two together.

AS IN- DO WE SERIOUSLY THINK THAT WE ARE DOING MORE THAN GOD IS?  Ummm...NO!  No we aren't.  Our job as a Christian is to DO WHAT GOD IS TELLING  US TO DO.  Sometimes we get it right, and sometimes we don't!  Sometimes we can think for years we have been doing something right, and then the Holy Spirit steps in and changes our thinking.
(*note this picture is random, but a bit on the funny side- this sticker came from our new food processor...he he he.....and well of course my hubby thought it would be funny to put on our microwave.  Just a bit of funny side from my hubby.)

I am sure for some of you that read this blog- you have experienced this.  You never knew of the EXTREME NEED for foster care, adoption needs, domestic adoption needs, international adoption needs, older child adoption needs, children who are special that need families too.  Or never thought about homeschooling, or about eating better, or about not listening to this or that- whether on the tv or on the radio, or how you speak to others or your own family, or whatever it is.

BUT GOD- came in and said.....I think if you try it this way you will see that I am right and this will be a better choice for you.  A choice that will lead you to ME!!!!  TO SEE ME MORE!!!
(*yes Elizabeth lost her first and second tooth this past week.  I can't find the other pic?  But now she is front upper teeth- toothless.  And somehow she is still soo CUTE I want to squeeze her!)

I know people out there are struggling because they have been told that certain decisions were wrong by this group and right by this group.  We do this in our own churches all the time.  BUT GOD- GOD can open our hearts.  Enough to say that if we are following HIM we will be set FREE from the trials of this world.
 (*my homemade baby foods)

Not that we won't experience them.....oh my no!!!!  Ummm......I experience them all the time, and I am sure you do as well.  Just that we are set free from the opinions of everyone around us.  When we look to God to tell us HIS OPINION of us we realize that everyone else's opinions just don't seem to matter as much.

I can tell you that if we lived by the opinions of others......we would not have all we have.....our 9 beautiful children whom we love so very much it hurts to describe it!!!  We would not have followed him into camping ministry, and now here, and now to my husband's new job (he starts officially in a few weeks, but has already started in his heart and with a few things here and there ;). ), and sooo many things that seem different to what the world thinks we should do.

Want to know a secret?  Every time we have chosen to "give up" or get away from something we feel is separating us from God- we GAIN SO MUCH MORE!!!!

I mean when my hubby said we are giving up all R rate movies....ok no big deal.  When we started giving up almost all PG 13 movies....ummmm why?  When we started giving up all tv (except for food network, and Duggars, and Olympics....and even then we don't really watch it that much)....ummmm why??  No more Law and Order?  No more ER?  No more ......  why?  No more music outside of Christian radio stations/music?  Awww.......really.  No more ____________.

And you know what- I have gained a whole new perspective on things I just thought were normal.  I am NOT SAYING YOU HAVE TO DO THESE THINGS!!!  That is just it.  That is the argument!!!  You can't change someone's heart- YOU are not that powerful....ONLY GOD IS!!!!!!
You see my wonderful model- again, because let's face it he is my cutie patootie!!!!  You see that stick he is holding.  That is what you call a "lemon pop".  They sometimes freeze them, or room temperature.  It is something to "awaken" his mouth senses.  Because this boy did/does NOT like to have his mouth messed with at all, and did/doesn't like to eat.

HE HAS COME A LONG WAY PEOPLE!!!

So he eats 3rd foods, and now my homemade creations, but well.....that has been a llloooonnngggg road.  He still has issues- eating anything dry- even a crumb is a huge NO WAY!  Lumpy things in his foods....ummm....boy can find them and spit them out in a heartbeat!
Now different things work for different children.  Sometimes it takes years of trying things to get them to finally want to eat...some children never get there.  BUT GOD- we have HOPE IN HIM (read my last post).  This little boy "allowed" someone to maybe give him a taste of a lemon pop- 4ish months ago.  BUT he was NOT about to let anyone really put that in his mouth!!!!
NOW- he loves them!!!  As in the therapist gave him 3 of them at once and I promise I tried to get a picture on my phone, but couldn't- he seriously had them all in his mouth!!!!  Moving his tongue around with them, licking them, playing with them, enjoying the tart flavor, and pushing on his mouth with them.  THIS IS HUGE!!!!

I couldn't do it.  I could put the lemon pop in front of him.  I could try to force it in his mouth.  I could tell him how I wanted him to do it.  I could show him me putting it in my mouth.  I could tell him all day long that this would help him eat.  BUT IT WOULDN'T HELP HIM.

That is pretty much how it is.  We as Christians- should stand up for what we believe in.  Whatever that looks like.  Some of us feel more strongly about things than others or we go about it in different ways.  Some  of our personalities are different and so when we stand up for something it just looks and sounds different than others.

BUT- WE DIDN'T force someone to accept Christ- OR OUR beliefs!!!!  Because at the end of the day- IT IS NOT ABOUT US!!!!!!!!  It is about God working in different ways in the Body of Christ (SEE SCRIPTURE FROM LAST POST!!)

In the end....if we listen closely our lives may seem CRAZY :).  As in taking yet another salary cut, to do something your hubby and the whole family is passionate about, moving to another state where you have no job yet, moving again and again- taking huge financial losses, adopting AGAIN....or any array of crazy really.

IT's a GOOD THING GOD NEVER GIVES UP ON ME!!!!!!  I am sure I have offended readers, those who are my facebook friends....wonder how many have unfriended me lately??  OH WELL!  Because it is more important for me to serve my Savior than be loved by the world.

So the word is out- I am a JESUS FREAK and not afraid to say it!!!!  (ok dating myself....who went to see the Jesus Freak tour???  ;).
Oh yea, my birthday!!!!!!!  Happy Birthday to me....Happy Birthday to me......Yes it's true I had a birthday.  Now for the kiddos we make a huge fuss, but for Jason and I we may do something, but it is usually just not that big of a deal.  (***we did do something, but you know since our birthdays and anniversary are all in the same month it was wrapped up together).
Aww........this is a great present- my little man reaching out to me!!!!!!!
Look at that face!!!!  It melts me EVERY TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Man oh man- 2 miracles right here together.  Oh you haven't heard my testimony yet???  GO HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Ummm..promise you will NOT REGRET IT!!!!!
Jason couldn't resist taking more pictures because he says I don't have enough pictures of me on the blog?
 So here I am.......again......boring!  snooze........
Here is my "stash" of cards- awwww.....LOVE THEM!!!!
And in case you didn't know it - Joanna wanted to say GOD LOVES YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :)
Pray your weekend is going GREAT!!!!

I was going to write about chicken, but instead......

I love rainbows!!!This one is right above our home.  Yep, that would be our 15 passenger van in our driveway.  This was taken a weekish ago.  I didn't see it, but Jason and the kids said it had ALL of the colors and was so very vivid!!!
I LOVE IT!!!  Because rainbows are reminders that God will not flood the whole Earth ever again.  Kind of like a reminder of HOPE!  HOPE is a great word and is in my favorite Bible verse....Hebrews 11:1 "Now Faith is the substance of things HOPED for the Evidence of things not seen."

I think the reason I love it so very much is because there are sooo many times we don't see the HOPE in a situation.  Oh we try to have some Faith that it will happen or that things will turn out ok, but so very hard when we can't see it.  BUT HOPE- HOPE can bridge that gap!!!
Just take this little man.  He is so FULL OF HOPE!!!  His situation when he first came into the world....not so much.  It was full of pain, neglect, and unknown amounts of complete and utter uncertainty.  With very little resources or hope at that time......I am sure his sweet baby self could have given up all together.  I PRAISE GOD HE brought him through that time.

That he is still alive is such a MIRACLE!!!  Low apgar scores, preemie, young mother, cebral palsey, small head, hiv, drugs, alcohol, and on and on and on....and yet the GOD OF THE UNIVERSE kept him safe in HIS ALMIGHTY ARMS!!

Then it would seem that all hope was GAINED- because he found a wonderful family that was giving him NEW LIFE!!!  Then tragedy, of untold amounts fell on the home......a story that would rip your heart out......and still does mine and his precious first healing family.  There are no words......EXCEPT.....God was still stirring hope- it looked hopeless.  And to this day is still seems sometimes hopeless for his first healing family....except I pray for hope for them every single day of my life!
This cutie pie that God created.......has sooo much HOPE!  Hope in his 8 siblings that love on him and squish his cuteness all the time.  Hope in a mommy who is pretty stubborn and won't let him get away with complaining just because something is hard to do.  Hope in therapists who he sees twice a week for a totally of 2 1/2 hours.  Hope in a daddy who loves him so very unconditionally and loves to swing him around and tickle him and play.  Hope in the fact that HE IS SOOO VERY LOVED- by us, by his birth family, by his first healing family, by all the fans he has out there cheering on every step of progress!!!
This handsome boy is hanging onto that HOPE!
The HOPE that God said was true- having faith we know that HOPE will give us and evidence of things unseen.
That this little boy will become what God wants HIM to be!  A WORLD CHANGER FOR HIM!!!!!!
Oh but what I have seen this last week has been more like a world destroyer........passions have flared.  And passions can be GREAT.  Except when we use them to do this.......you see that thing my hubby is holding?  It is a thorny bit from our tree out front......
This is the culprit.  We have trimmed it already a few times and want to rip it out altogether!!!  It's not that we don't like palm trees- we do.....
Just not the severe spikes on this thing!!!!!  And this is AFTER it was trimmed!
My hubby is having fun demonstrating the power in this little thorn.
Piercing the milk jug several times easily....Ummmmm......just like it did HIS FOOT!  Yes that is right.  Not this particular thorn, but one just like it pierced my hubby's foot!  Thanks to a trip to Ethiopia to get our Jonathan he has had his shots!  Whew.....and with some soaking and ice, and some love from a wife...he made it.
When we say piercing things with our mouth- EVEN out of a good cause or good thoughts.  A place of love and passion we can deflate that HOPE.  We can cut it out altogether.

Then we act as if HOPE was never there in the first place.  We close our eyes to it.  Passion is wonderful....it is what makes us help each other out in hurricanes, tornadoes, loss, death, war, hunger, fatherlessness, trials, and the list could go on forever.  BUT when we choose to only see our side of things we hurt others....even with great intentions to just "preach to them".

I have seen Christians ATTACK other Christians this week- and I am NOT arguing about this point- it was obvious on facebook.  It hurt me greatly because we miss so many bigger things- LIKE HOPE!!!!!

I am also not ashamed to have eaten chicken this week.  And you know what I saw as I stood in line that was long in the sun with others (actually we were served in about 20 minutes despite the long lines).  The compassion in their hearts.  The yearning to send a clear message.  The fellowship of those who say enough is enough- Marriage is for real not a joke as our society treats it/ or free speech is important to me.  They were polite, smiling, talking, fellowshipping, laughing, and I can truly say it was not the vulgar "hate" that everyone says it was.

Yes I know I mentioned chicken....sorry.  I just want there to be passion, but with HOPE, and not tearing down.  Tearing down those who aren't paying for adoptions or even thinking about the hungry- because I beg to differ that you can do all of the above.

I have FAITH that the Body of Christ can come together and STAND FIRM on their beliefs AND STILL LOVE EACH OTHER!!!

Whether you are a baby wearer- or don't know what that is
Whether you adopt or not
Whether you eat all organic or you feel a little mac n cheese will not kill you
Whether you breast feed or choose not to
Whether you cosleep or your child has their own room
Whether you homeschool or send your kiddos to public school
Whether you feed the hungry, stand for marriage, preach the gospel to everyone you meet, sponsor several children around the world, or help children in foster care........or ...........

I am pretty sure that is why God said- He has given us all gifts....

1 Corinthians 12

New International Version (NIV)

Concerning Spiritual Gifts

12 Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.[b] 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

Unity and Diversity in the Body

12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by[c] one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free —and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
15 Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” 22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 28 And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues[d]? Do all interpret? 31 Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.

Love Is Indispensable

And yet I will show you the most excellent way.

AMEN!!!  A MOST EXCELLENT WAY!!!!!!!!  PRAYING FOR THAT TODAY AND DAILY!!!!!!!

***For more great words on how I feel- I promise they wrote exactly what I was thinking.....
