Isn't this what you had in mind for dinner? Yummy tastes like paper towels (we had just finished cleaning the house- good thing we only use vinegar to clean with and not nasty chemicals).
And daddy isn't even stopping me yet. He is just takin' another pic for that blog thing. He he he he- I escaped my "jail" and made a break for the bathroom. One of my favorite destinations besides the dog food dish which I love too, but mommy always catches me before I can really get a good taste.
So........if you haven't read part 1 or 2 go back :) That will explain this question I will attempt to answer.
What do we do about RAD, ADHD, and other behaviors that are every day, some not so every day. Now AGAIN- if you didn't go back and read- I HATE LABELS!!!! Did I mention how much I really HATE putting anyone or any behavior in a box? Because I DO!!!
I don't believe God labels us- because if He did- I am SOOO in trouble!!! For real ever thought of that? I mean what if he said you aren't worth it, you just won't listen, you are hopeless, you just.......... This is why I choose to think of my children as well- you know normal :) They are no different than I am. Most people probably have thought- she is hopeless, she'll never learn, she will never get this. Thank God HE has never thought that :) !!!
So what do we do in our home. First off there is no one stop shop. There is no "magic potion". There is not one thing that "does the trick". That is why this issue is complicated. First of all most people skim right past the MOST IMPORTANT aspect- Spiritual Healing!!!! That is the MOST important thing of all. You see my children (maybe yours too) have already had to change from one family to another. That in and of itself no matter what age- HURTS! Add on the fact that some birth families might have been living in darkness, and been bound in sin their whole lives....and it is easy to see that this has effects on your child. I could go on and on about all the "things that happened in the past".
The GREAT NEWS is that your children don't have to live in this!!!! YEAH!!!! There is FORGIVENESS!!!! There is HEALING in God!!!! HE does NOT want to leave you there, or your children. HE wants you to come to HIM.....ask....and be set free! We spend hours in prayer over our children, holding our children, praying over our home, what we do, EVERYTHING! Praying for God's peace, power, healing, and forgiveness to rule our home and lives!
Love Matthew 10:1 He called his twelve disciples to Him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.....vs 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. As you go, preach this message; 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out the demons. Freely you have received, freely give." (through verse 8)
In these verses Jesus gave authority to do what sometimes today seems impossible. Is it really? I don't think so. I have seen MY GOD do the impossible all the time :) God can and WANTS to heal your children and you as well. He didn't bring us to hard spots to just be frustrated with behaviors. He didn't say I have given this child a home- pricked your heart for them, and then that's it. He has said I want you to be a part of this HEALING PROCESS!!! I want you to not give up. They need someone who will never give up- EVER!!! No matter what. They need someone to give them agape love!
Over and over and over in the Old Testament God says - if you turn back to me....destroy the idols, kick out the nasty that has gotten between us, prepare yourself to be holy in My presence, stop being wicked- I will heal you. I will hear your prayers! 2 Chronicles 7:13-16 "When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there."
There is a BUT in there too......we have to turn away. Sometimes including the child. You can't make them want to change. Kind of like God can't make us want to change. Every person has to choose for themselves. Why is it that some of the most godly people in the world have children that have rebelled? Because their children had to choose their own way. BUT God also hears our pleas.......He knows our desires for our children.....and HE does HEAL!
As parents it is our job to do EVERYTHING we can to help them heal. This looks different for every situation. Sometimes it is a few month process....sometimes years and years of process......sometimes a whole lifetime. Since Christ did not give up on me....I will NEVER give up on any one of my children no matter what the situation may be....how bad it is. I pray God will give me the strength to do this.......
***Stay tuned for more....., but if I disappear for a bit it is because my parents are coming for a few days.
Again - this isn't an argument. I know there have situations where someone has walked the very hard road to having to say goodbye to a child- for necessary reasons. Sometimes we have to claim that Jesus can heal our child through someone else as well.

Thanks for adding that last paragraph. I know your heart, and was not at all feeling judged. But, as a parent who has disrupted an adoption, I know how easy it is to feel judged. Thanks for NOT judging those of us who the Lord has directed to allow another family to raise a child that was once ours.
ReplyDeleteAlso so appreciated your thoughts/understanding that the child also has a choice to make. I have had a rebellious bio. child ... and a rebellious adopted child ... along with 10 more children that have not, for the most part, been rebellious. We have discussed this choice part of it in much depth with our 9 y.o. child who displays many symptoms of RAD. (Also NOT a big fan of labels.) She knows that she must make the choice ... to follow the ways of the enemy, or follow the ways of the Lord. We have had her verbalize, out loud, which choice she is going to make (and this discussion may take place when she is right in the midst of a serious spiritual battle).
Love your honesty. Keep writing.
Hoping you all enjoy your time with the grandparents.
Laurel :)
Good stuff....very good stuff!!
ReplyDeleteWe all have choices but these hurt children have to work harder, fight harder to make the right ones. It's definitely a spiritual battle and one we can't hope to win without HIS intervention!!
Much love and have fun with your parents!
Lisa
Wow.. thinking about those words, situations. Thank you for your honesty.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your words on spiritual healing! It is so often overlooked. I'm definitely guilty of this. Thanks for reminding me :)
ReplyDeleteSo true that they have to want to change. We just discussed this with Adam. He wants to go back to the big public highschool to play sports. We talked about some of the things that have to change to show me I can trust him to make good choices there.
ReplyDeleteBless you! This is just what I needed today. My seven year old son has been driving me crazy. Amazingly, the very verse you highlighted was his Bible verse from school this week. He knows it very well. I showed him your blog (the section with the verse) and told him this was a family with eight kids, some of whom have behaviors that need to change. I said the mom is saying that we all need to pray to change these behaviors and to look what verse she used. He started reading it out loud and got a huge smile on his face as he stepped back and finished the verse on his own. He got distracted, but I'll come back to this when we pray later. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou are exactly right about the labels...thank goodness the Lord does not use them on us!
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
Future Mama
