I know my posts are probably a lot more viewed when there are cute pictures involved.....so I am using some cutie pie pics of my babes as bribery for my beloved readers :)
Yeah.....look at that face. The thing on her head- a receiving blanket that daddy tied up to look silly. You know because we are the serious kind of people. Or NOT!
So confessions.......they keep us honest, make us human, and help others to realize they are not alone.....so here goes......
OK: 1) I had NO idea what I was doing when we started - Not even a little bit- seriously!!!
2) I only knew that I couldn't spend so many hours away from my babes :)
3) I have tried all kinds of different things with the kids- some have flopped - big time- some work....
4) There are some days that I start off homeschooling and get so off track I don't recover
5) We typically homeschool 3 - 5 days a week- year round Because it is hard work people!
6) I wouldn't trade home schooling for the world! I would live off of beans and weenies if it meant we could keep home schooling.
7) Some days as we are homeschooling- they baby pukes on me in her sling or she starts "jabbering" just as I am trying to start something new with the kids.
8) Sometimes time outs happen during lesson time - some days constantly
9) I pray constantly while teaching- because I CAN'T DO IT ALONE!!!!
10) Sometimes as we homeschool our toddlers are running around screaming
11) There are plenty of days we homeschool in our pj's
12) There are also plenty of days we don't do hair because we don't want to get behind in homeschooling
13) There are MANY DAYS I feel very very very very very inadequate to teach my babes
14) We love to turn up the music loud and dance every once in a while
15) I hate testing, and mostly do oral quizzes :)
16) I know and pray that my children learn in spite of me or any books or computer programs we use
So there you have it! There are many days that are not as productive, but there are plenty of days that are. Everyday that my children LOVE to learn is Great for our family. That is just one of the best things ever- to have your children love learning.

Thank you so much for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteWe didn't do school at all today because I had a toothache. I was feeling so guilty since we already got a late start in the year.
We just do what works too! And I also love having my kiddos home!
p.s. CUTE pics. Love the blanket! :)
CUTE pics!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for keepin' in real! We have days like the one's you mentioned, but like you, I LOVE homeschooling! It has been such a blessing to all of us.
Sounds busy, but a lot of fun, too. After all, who wouldn't love to go to school in their pajamas?! And I'm sure the kids love to spend the day with their momma as much as you love having them there.
ReplyDeleteBlessings to your beautiful family, and keep up the good work!
Love the pics!! But, yes, my heart is being transformed for homeschooling. I know that when I start, I won't have a clue what I'm doing.
ReplyDeleteBut, having great homeschooling bloggy friends will come in handy!!!
I'm a teacher and, trust me, not every day in the classroom goes the way I planned for it to either! Keep up the good work! Wish I could be homeschooling! :)
ReplyDeleteDo you make your own curriculum or buy one (like sonlight, abeka, etc)?
ReplyDeleteYou sound pretty normal!!! LIFE happens -- and you are instilling perserverance and love of learning into your children along with THE HAPPY DANCE!!!
ReplyDeleteShe is the cutest thing ever :) !!!.. I wish I was able to homeschool. You are truly a dedicated mother and for this you have my applause!
ReplyDeleteI don't homeschool, but I am a preschool teacher...and this year my youngest daughter is in my class! What a blessing! Love watching her learn!
ReplyDeleteI think that was a very accurate description of homeschooling...nothing goes perfectly...but I wouldn't trade it for the world. My son once told me, Mommy I can read because of you - talk about melt my heart! What an honor and privledge this crazy journey called homeschool is!
ReplyDeleteCUTe PICS!
ReplyDeleteseriously. i am doing one lesson a day with my preschooler and IT IS HARD WORK!
your my hero
AMEN!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood to know we all have "those days". I always tell my husband when he comes home that we had some good moments today homeschooling and some not so good moments today homeschooling. This is a journey that only the Lord can help me on...trusting Him to carry me through. Thanks for sharing your heart and story. It is good to know that I am not alone.
ReplyDeleteI think you are on to something with the pictures!
ReplyDeleteI decided yesterday, there are some days that I am better at schooling and some days I am better at being Mama and they do not always fall on the same day. AND there are somedays that neither happen. Pray that God covers those days EXTRA thick!

ReplyDeleteHad some typos that didn't make sense so I erased my comment to go again. :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Dawn. I love that picture of your cutie pies around the table. I've been wondering what our table will look like when our girls are home and it's 8 kiddies around the table. Thanks for the glimpse. :-)
She's SO PRECIOUS! AND, we are ONE in homeschooling, we do the same thing! Cut school short today to decorate for fall :) HUGS!
ReplyDeleteCan I be in your class? This sounds like fun and I love the adorable pictures! Thanks for being real!!
ReplyDeleteLots of love! The Funk's
Thank you so much for sharing openly and honestly--I can relate! It's comforting to know it's challenging for others, too, and not just me. :)
ReplyDeleteWe are going through Children's Home Society of NC. The homestudy process was painfully long(obviously). But, we are praying for a quicker response in referring kids!!
ReplyDeleteOkay...I don't have anything to say about homeschooling, which I know is off topic. But, I did want to say that I love the new picture header!!! I know it's not "new". But, with G coming home, I've been a little behind. I also love that they have on matching shirts.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful!! Homeschooling was never meant to look like traditional school anyway, right??? Thanks for sharing, it makes me feel okay to hear other large homeschooling families share about your "normal" days! Oh, the memories and stories our kids will have!
ReplyDeleteI have that blanket AND that dress. Lol. Only read a couple of your posts so far but you have a very sweet heart. Thankful for your love of others.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE that I can be here to teach (and learn with!!!) our children....I would not change it, even on the worst of days (and yes, there are many of those for sure!)
